Whose Side is God On?

Many years ago, I came upon a wreck… I was in Jerusalem… and two people were dead… quickly a mass of people gathered around and were trying to get the doors open. And somebody came up in the crowd and said, “Jews or Arabs?” One of the guys said, “It’s Arabs.” Then the guy said, “Are they Christian or Muslim?” And it was one Christian and one Muslim… but I learned the mentality there, you know, here’s two people dead, somebody’s got to tell their mothers, their brothers, their wives, their children, and (bystanders) are wondering if it’s a Jew or an Arab, Christian or Muslim. And Americans tend to feel, as a whole… I’m sorry to say, evangelicals… when the Arabs die, they don’t feel the same as when an Israeli dies. They feel a difference. We should feel the same thing… that the Arab people probably died without Jesus… it doesn’t really matter if they’re a Jew or an Arab.

On Friday, July 25th, GI team members Mark Hausfeld, Jim Bennett, and Ken Ferguson hosted a live Hangout with an unnamed colleague, who has lived and served in the Middle East for over thirty years. This colleague shared insights on the continuing conflict in Iraq and Syria, and a sobering perspective on the spiritual implications of taking sides. He encouraged Christians to pray for the following points:

  • Pray for Christians to “rise above the conflict and not take sides.”
  • “Pray, with equal fervency and sincerity, that Jews and Arabs both would come to the Lord.”
  • Pray for humanitarian workers and assistance in the area to rebuild and show Christ’s love.

The full Hangout is embedded below.

amen and may we rise above sides to see as Jesus sees and keep praying out the root of sin

  2. Julie says:

Amen. May all christians carry the life of Christ and give no room to division in the body of Christ, people now read christians and not bible.

    • Janette Kassis says:

Amen. As Christians may we carry the message of our Lord Jesus Christ by our life example as well as our words. Only Christ has the answer for life, living, and eternal life. There is no other way to God except through Jesus Christ. Our Lord loves the world…. Muslim, Jew, or anything else and He died and offers eternal life with Him to all who will believe and accept Him. Christians must not condone evil, no matter who does it. We must stand for peace, loving our enemies, showing His love to all.
