Delivered from Hinduism and Called to Share Jesus with Muslims!

Both Farhan* and Neha* were born into Hindu families in a Muslim majority country. When Farhan was 15 years old, a Christian evangelist came to his city, and his mother decided to attend the evangelistic meetings. Although untouched by the preaching, Farhan’s mother accepted a New Testament in her local language. She gave this new religious book to Farhan to read.

Farhan, having his curiosity peaked by other worldviews, read the entire New Testament. After a thorough investigation into this new faith, he simply laid the book aside and kept practicing his Hindu beliefs. Six years later, while studying in college, he picked up the New Testament and once again read it from cover to cover. This time, however, as Farhan read the Bible a particular verse pierced his heart and mind: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me” (Revelation 3:20).

Farhan knew Jesus was speaking to him and he accepted Christ and was immediately baptized. His life was radically transformed, but it came with a price! His father, who is a high leader in their Hindu community, ostracized Farhan and has not spoken to him since his conversion.

Neha, Farhan’s wife, had a similar experience with her Hindu family when she accepted Christ. They understand the devastating pain of being cut off from their families, but since they received new life in Christ, they cannot return to their Hindu beliefs.

The Lord has called this precious couple to share the gospel of Jesus Christ in the majority Muslim community in which they live. Farhan and Neha recently received training during a six-week Jonah Initiative training at Asia Pacific Theological Seminary in Baguio City, Philippines. We rejoice to see how the Lord continues to call men and women to share the gospel with Muslims. Together we have been asking the Lord to raise up new workers to go to the Muslim world, and the Lord is faithfully calling and sending people to the difficult places.

It was sobering to hear the testimony of another student at the Jonah Initiative training. Rodel,* who lives in the Philippines, resides in a strongly Muslim area of the country. Previously, he had no desire to reach Muslims, but he knows the Lord is clearly directing him to a particular city with a large Muslim population.

Rodel admitted that his biggest obstacle is fear. He has a clear understanding of the real difficulty and potential cost. Nonetheless, he also knows he must obey the Lord. It reminds us all of what Jesus said in Luke 14:28: “For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?”

Fear and/or anger toward Muslims is a natural response. Due to their beliefs and the deception of Satan, ministry to Muslims includes very real life challenges. However, as it is written in 1 John 4:4: “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

We are humbled by the calling, commitment, and sacrifice of the believers/leaders we train. At the same time, we recognize it is the Lord’s work and His bidding that each of us should follow. May we continue to stand in the gap by praying for these servants of the Lord, and may we be challenged to obey and follow His bidding for us as well.

Thank you, again, for your faithful partnership through prayer and your financial gifts. As we all obey and follow the Lord, Muslims are having the opportunity to go from spiritual blindness to seeing the light of Jesus Christ!

We press on because every Muslim must know the truth about Jesus!
