A Journey to Understanding Muslims

The Apostle Peter penned marvelous words to the Early Church, when he declared:

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”

A living hope! What comfort, what joy, and what true hope we have in knowing Jesus is alive!

For those of us who have experienced the life-transforming work of Jesus Christ, we can easily forget what life was like without Christ. We must never lose the wonder and awe of the mercy we have received through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Now stop and put yourself in the shoes of Muslims. What hope would you have today?

Because Global Initiative longs for every Muslim to know the truth about Jesus, we have developed a new resource entitled Journey to Understanding. This practical book inspires and equips pastors, small group leaders, and lay people to share their faith with Muslims. It seeks to help Christians understand the barriers Muslims must overcome to accept Christ.

When we see the multiple barriers Muslims must overcome to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior, it seems impossible. If it were up to our ability to persuade and convince Muslims, we would never see them come to faith in Christ. Happily, the same Spirit who awakened us to the truth of Christ is awakening Muslims as well. The Apostle Paul clearly declares:

“Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:11-13)

Millions of Muslims have never heard that Christ died on the cross for their sins because of God the

Father’s great mercy toward them. Muslims have not discovered that their only hope is in Christ and that He is alive today! This is why the ministry that God has called us to do together is so critical.

Because this battle is spiritual, not natural, we are praying and believing that God will raise up more intercessors to stand in the gap and pray for Muslims. But the next step after intercession is proclamation. Paul reminds us of our part in God’s mission:

“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are
they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear
without someone preaching?” (Romans 10:14)

Many Muslims don’t believe in Christ today because they simply haven’t heard. It will take Spirit-led believers, demonstrating the unconditional love of Christ, and sharing their testimony with Muslims for them to receive the living hope—our Lord Jesus Christ!

We believe that our new resource, Journey to Understanding: Equipping Christians to Engage Muslims with Faith, will be used by the Holy Spirit to prepare the church in reaching Muslims. If you are interested in preparing yourself to minister to Muslim people in your context, the book is now available for purchase!

On behalf of our team, thank you again for your faithful support to our ministry. Your gift this month will help to underwrite the general expenses of our ministry, so we can continue to equip the church to reach Muslim people with the living hope of Jesus Christ.
