Christ breaks down barriers in Romania and beyond!

Hanif,* a successful Egyptian Muslim businessman living in Greece, met a young Romanian woman, whom he later married. Six years later they relocated to her home country of Romania. It was there that Hanif’s brother-in-law began sharing Christ with him and gave him an Arabic Bible. Hanif agreed to start attending church but, like most Muslims, he struggled to accept the entire message of the Bible. Nevertheless, Hanif’s brother-in-law continued to pray for his salvation. Keep in mind that prayer plays a crucial role in Muslims coming to Christ.

Two years ago, the Lord Jesus Christ supernaturally revealed himself to Hanif in a dream! In his dream, Jesus was shrouded in a shining light and was reaching out to Hanif with His nail-pierced hands. Jesus then pulled Hanif out of darkness into His light. The following Sunday, Hanif accepted Jesus as His Lord and Savior and was baptized in water and committed to follow Christ.

Sensing a God-given responsibility to share the gospel with Muslim businessmen from Turkey, Syria, and Egypt, Hanif joined 25 other students to receive training through our Jonah Initiative. Over a 6-week period this past Fall, Hanif and these students were equipped with the tools to begin effective outreach to Muslims.

As I reflect on what God has done in Romania over the years, it reminds us of what Paul said to the church in Ephesus: “For he himself [Christ] is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility…” (Ephesians 2:14). For many years, those of us in the West talked about the Iron Curtain and the spread of communism and its godless ideology, which appeared to be spiritually impenetrable.

Nevertheless, God declares words of hope through the prophet Jeremiah: “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me (Jeremiah 32:27)? Today, young men and women who were part of former communist countries are being sent to what has seemed to be spiritually impenetrable Muslim peoples.

Hanif’s testimony beautifully illustrates how the Lord brought an Egyptian Muslim to Romania to be touched by the gospel as a person from a former communist country shared the life-transforming message of Jesus Christ. God’s Word is true! Jesus declared, “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it” (Matthew 16:18).

In our 17 years of partnership with the Romanian church, over 30 trainers have been equipping men and women to reach Muslims with the gospel. Over the past 11 years, the Pentecostal Missions agency of
Romania has sent more than 60 missionaries overseas. Fifty-four percent of these missionaries are serving in Muslim countries.

Global Initiative has the unique privilege of continuing to partner with the Romanian church to see their missionaries and lay people equipped to reach Muslim people. Your faithful financial partnership enables us to go and train these leaders. Your financial gifts are making an eternal impact in Muslims coming to faith in Christ. Thank you for standing with us through your intercession and generosity!
May the Lord bless you, your family, and the lives you are touching with the love of Christ!
