A Response to Ben Corey’s “5 Things I Wish Conservative Christians Understood About Islam”: Part 3

This 3-part article has been written by Dr. Fred Farrokh* as a response to Dr. Benjamin L. Corey’s Patheos blog“5 Things I Wish Conservative Christians Understood about Islam.” If you haven’t read that piece, we encourage you to do so! Parts one and two were posted previously.

5. Original: “Muslims are most often the victim of terrorism.”
Revision: “Muslims are most often the victim of terrorism, which is almost exclusively perpetrated by Muslims.”

Corey is again correct that Muslims are most often the victim of terrorists. This is heart-wrenching to observe. Many are truly innocent non-combatants. Innocent Muslim employees died working in the Twin Towers, and innocent civilians are dying in Syria, Iraq, and now Iran. Nevertheless, we must press through for a fuller picture of the terrorism problem. Again, the root of the answer lies in the words and actions of Muhammad who stated, “I have been made victorious with terror (cast in the hearts of the enemy).” (Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 4, Book 52, Hadith 220). Moreover, the ends-justify-the-means mentality pervades most of contemporary Jihadism (even though Jihadists do not use this exact expression, the idiom describes exactly their mindset). While Ben Corey has raised some interesting questions, he has missed the mark on quite a few of his answers. Rev. Franklin Graham continues to speak wisely about national security. This is not hatred but a loving position that will protect innocent people, including our Muslim neighbors. The silver lining to all this is that many Muslims are re-assessing their allegiance to Islam and Muhammad, especially in comparing their prophet to the Lord Jesus Christ.
